HERO

I have three of the most wonderful sons any Mother could ever hope for! Each works as hard as he can in his chosen career and does there very best to take of their families. Of course, they are my favorite scrapbook subjects, and I often do use this forum to "Show-Them-Off". Today is another one of those moments, lol!

I have two sons in the military, and both really do love it. I always have to ask them what the ever-growing rows of service ribbons means on their uniforms. Recently, Nick's wife helped me take care of this problem, in regards to Nicholas' Service by sending me a list. Thank you Dawn!!! I got it scrapped on a patriotic page for family and friends! Carolyn, you need to do the same so I can do one for Michael!

I used the CELEBRATE LIBERTY-2009 Page set and the ALPHA by Rina Kroes

I have all his career info on the page including,

His Duty Stations:
1999-2004 EN-4303 Assault Craft Unit 1 (ACU-1)
2004-2004 EN-4624 USS Oriole (MHC-55)
2004-2005 EN-4324 USS Cardinal (MHC-60)
2005-2006 EN-4324 USS Comorant (MHC-57)
2006-2009 EN-4291 COMMINEWARCOM/COMCMRON
2008-2008 90BC GWOT USA/101st Airborne Division
2008-2009 901E GWOT IA/ILO Joint IED Defeat Org (JIEDDO)TF Paladin
2009-2009 EN-4206 Formal Schools/Senior Enlisted Propulsion Engineering
2009- EN-4206 USS The Sullivans (DDG-68)

I also have his Service Ribbons:
Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal(3), Navy Good Conduct Medal(3), National Defense Medal(2), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, IRAQ Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal,Humanitarian Service Medal, Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon(2), Naval Reserve Sea Service Ribbon, NATO-Non Art5 ISAF Medal Afghanistan, Navy Rifle Ribbon(expert), Navy Pistol Ribbon(expert)

Now I will wait on the info from my Oldest Son, Michael, and I will make a page for him making an awesome two-pager for their Military Albums!

Happy Scrappin!

RAK from ZIGGLE

I just had to share the news!!!! I received a lovely RAK from Ziggle Designs...her cute LIL LADY kit! I just love the colors in this kit, and I had some photos that I had been needing to do but was waiting to find just the right inspiration. With this adorable kit and a few challenges, I think I came up with a couple of winners!

With an old photo of my nieces, I did a Sunshine Studio Challenge Scraplift of CHERISH EVERY MINUTE by MadameWing. (Click on any image to be taken to gallery/store)

Above is a scraplift of Dorotka by Veternica for a challenge at Creative Victorian using a portrait of my Grandchildren (the children of my youngest son, Matthew). I really like the way it turned out!!

Thank you so much for the wonderful RAK Kami!

You can visit Ziggle Designs at Scrap Orchard

I Hate to Iron!

I hope every one enjoyed a wonderful week! As for me, I am glad to start a new one. I don't really know why I say that, its not that last week was so terribly bad...I started to say just insignificant but I can't say that either. It seems like it just went by and I got nothing accomplished but then when I look back, I can't say that... Our yard looks really good. I got closets cleaned out and I cleaned out my kitchen cabinets, and re-organized things. Yesterday, I mopped floors and washed curtains, as well as cleaning all the bed linens. Gary even got the garage and car cleaned this week so our house is pretty much in order! I guess I just miss the kids as I have not seen any of them this month. July is almost over and school will be starting back here in seven days!!! I wish we had the funds to take the kids to one of the theme parks or something. I have not done that in years and all of the grand kids are big enough that they would really enjoy that but there is no since in wishing your life away! What I can do is stop by whining! My family and I are healthy and happy, and for that I am so thankful to the Good Lord!

This week my goals are to get the ironing done! I have a huge basket that should is not going away on its own, lol. Of all the chores around here, that is the only one that I can say "I HATE TO IRON" and I am no good at it either...I guess that is why I hate it, lol. It may be from a complex I formed in my youth or something. As the only girl in the family, Mama used to make me do the family ironing. I can remember being in the basement doing the stupid ironing while I could hear my brothers and the other kids laughing and playing outside. Oh how I hated that!!!!

Back in those EVERY THING had to be ironed! To make matters worse, the school teacher next door spoke to my parents and they worked out this plan that I would do his ironing for him. They just could not understand why I was not delighted in ironing his stupid old pants and shirts..."He will pay you ten cents for every item you iron, Debbie!", my Daddy used to say! The first time I did his ironing, he sent it back for me to redo as it was not good enough and Daddy was really upset about that! Needless to say, I was not employed for very long, and he soon got the girl next door to do it. I would watch her carry over his finished ironing and attempt to count the hangers as she walked across the yard to see how much money she would make, and she was doing well...two or three dollars at a time! I was a little envious over that but I knew ironing was just something I did not really want to become proficient at, lol! Anyway, like-it-or-not, I must get my ironing done this week for there is no girl across the street to do it for me! With August fast approaching, I am trying to get all the July Challenges done at Scrapbook-Elements as there is not much time left!

For the month of July we will be exchanging recipes with Cheese as a main ingredient! We invite you to join with us in the fun! In exchange for submitting your recipe, you will receive the entire month's collection! A great way to collect new recipes and these cards make great gifts! Here is my submission

The GOT CHEESE kit by Kimberly Stewart is filled with cute boy and girl mice along with their favorite thing to eat: cheese! They are just waiting to decorate your layouts and or craft projects!

The theme for July’s Card Exchange is Friendship as August 2nd is Friendship Day. By the time that day rolls around we’ll have plenty of Friendship Cards to share. A template has been included as well should you need it to get started.

For My Card above, I used products by Rina Kroes MEADOW BREEZE STACKED PAPERS and MEADOW BREEZE ELEMENTS. Rina has released several beautiful ADD-ONS which coordinate with MEADOW BREEZE PAGE KIT today in the SBE Store.

The Bookmark Exchange for July is theme-free so I made an adorable one using Kimmi's Newest release HEY DIDDLE DIDDLE and her TOOTY FRUITY ALPHABETS

This delightfully charming HEY DIDDLE DIDDLE set is jam packed with the endearing characters of the nursery rhyme. You must add this to your stash!

For Kiki's Everyday Living Challenge to scrap something about a summer picnic or bbq, I made this...
Following proper protocol for a summer bbq, Michael (My oldest son) enjoys his role as Chief Cook at the family grill while Carolyn (His wife) runs herself ragged as the "bottle washer"

I used one of my very favorite kits by Cathy Krenek for the above page. SUMMER TREATS,
A kit with popsicle-inspired colors, fun summer elements, and general-purpose elements which make this a great choice for your summer photos! So as you can see, its not too late to get in on the July challenges and in exchange, you will earn some great rewards! Happy Scrappin!

Internet Woes

I had major plans of getting so much scrapping done this week but just as I began to download my kits on Monday afternoon, our internet connection was lost. We waited for several hours and then I told my husband that I heard the large tractors mowing up on the main highway, and perhaps he should go check things out. Sure enough, they had mowed over the phone sub-station which served this entire area. Wires and metal were strewn everywhere and evidently, he did not even care and did not report it. We reported it and waited. Finally on Wednesday, my DH went out to see if they were working on it; he said it looked like it was fixed but we still had no service. Wednesday night, he went up to his nephew's house and theirs had been fixed since Tuesday! So we called again. When they finally came on Thursday, we asked them why everyone else's had been fixed on Tuesday and ours and his sister's had not, they said ours had not been reported as being out-of-order!!!

Now remember, we were the ones who had intially reported the incident to ATT but because we had not specifically given them our phone numbers, they did nothing! The repairman laughed and said that he knew our service was out as was everybody's in the area but it was ATT's policy "If they don't call, then it ain't broke". Not only did we have to suffer inconvenience from the idiot who mowed over this four feet tall sub-station but then we were further inconvenienced by the idiots at ATT!!! I am reminded of the song I heard on the radio the other day, "God is great, beer is good and people are crazy!" Even though I don't like beer, I so agree with the sentiments!

To top it all, it has been raining all week too so we did not get a lot done outside either but Hubby did get the garage cleaned out and in spite of my little bout of depression due to internet being out, I did get a little scrapping done!

Recently, I was fortunate enough to have been given a lovely RAK, ELEGANT DUSK by Wyld Web Designs from GingerScraps Designs. I love the blue-green colors and with the grays, I thought it made for a beautiful page for my DH' photos rocking our Grandson. Pap loved to sing and rock Isaac to sleep when he stayed all night with us. My heart would just melt watching how tender and loving he could be with the babies.

Thank you so much for the wonderful RAK Charmaine!!! You can check out all her lovely products at GingerScraps, and visit her blog A Funny Thing Happened Today for some wonderful inspiration!! You may even find a freebie or two as well!!

Happy scrappin!

Happy Monday!

I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful weekend! The weather has been so incredible here in the holler...no humidity and even getting down into the 50s at night! That is nothing like July usually is in Kentucky. I am sure my kids have been out enjoying it as I have not seen or heard from any of them! Yes, Granny is whining a little with that remark, lol. That's okay...I remember what it is like to force yourself to take the kids and visit the Grandparents, lol! We worked out in the yard and I did quite a bit of scrapping! I hope you don't mind if I share some with you but I will make it worth your time if you follow me to the end for I have a little reward waiting there!

First of all, I would like to show you a couple of the pages I did with Lorilei's SAND PILE. From ROSEY POSEY STUDIO, this is a great mini kit for your summer activities! When you are checking out the great kits by Lor, don't forget to stop by HER BLOG for she has an awesome coordinating alphabet!

Our little daydream believer loves to play in the dirt. On this afternoon, it was so fun to watch him as he sat playing and talking to the stone garden statue with his little hot wheel race car.

The title came from the song by the Monkees from 1967. Daydream Believer was their last number one hit in the US.

As always, for a full description and credit list just right-click on the image to open gallery in a new window and, please leave me a little comment as well so I know you dropped by. I love to read the comments!

I used one of the best "kid" movies that I have ever seen as the title of the above page. It is a story about friendship and baseball, and the people in our lives. We enjoyed a lot of fun years at the ball park when my boys were small. Summers were busy, busy, busy with two boys playing in two different leagues most of the time. Both of them were quite good and always made all-stars which meant the baseball games lasted all summer long! I sure do miss those fun times so I scrap a lot about my memories! This page is with my youngest son Matthew and one of his first teams. Several of those boys remain his best friends today!

Lorilei has also released a fun little kit for scrapping about your family, friends and favorite memories! CROSSING has 61 elements, a wonderful multi-colored alpha in small case letters and 10 papers. I used it for this page my oldest Granddaughter who is so very shy, and so very beautiful! She is just wonderful!

I created the above page for the July Photo Scrap Challenge at Creative Victorian Designs
I just recently joined that forum but I really like it. They have a ton of creative challenges!
The above page also was chosen as a Gallery Standout at Faith Sisters so I am very proud of that!!!
I loved the split photo designs of Goof by FlutterbyeFaery so I chose it for my submission for the July Scraplift Challenge at GingerScraps. For my lift, I chose a comic book theme with precious photos of GS Isaac when he first began walking using Kristen Rice's new COMIC HERO KIT by K Studio. I was also able to submit this for the Frameworthy Challenge at SBG as well! Don't you love it when you can manage that!!

I created the above page for a Blending Challenge using some of the wonderful photos DS#3 took when they took a brief sight-seeing tour through our nations. capitol, Washington D.C.
I used Rina's CELEBRATE LIBERTY Page Kit and Alphabet with song lyrics by Lee Greenwood. Celebrate Liberty was released at SBE last week, and you know, I just can't let Rina release a new kit without creating a coordinating freebie for you, so here it is!

Rina's Meadow Breeze

Rina's "Meadow Breeze" collection recalls light and airy mornings spent in the fresh countryside - cool, breezy and unpolluted. Revel in the delicate touches of this kit in its varying shades of silvery sky blue and bright cobalt blue, highlights of crisp whiteness, with kisses of sunny buttercup yellow and lush meadow green. I have had so much fun playing with this breath-taking kit!

Don't you just adore those fresh colors! Of course, I could not let you go without a freebie from this new release....I made you a pretty little flower cluster from one of the Meadow Breeze layouts I finished!

Celebrate Liberty

A Mother's worries and prayers for her beloved children are never ending, and when my sons were serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, I do not think I would have gotten through those days if it had not been for the relationship my family and I have with the Lord. He answered out prayers and brought both of my sons home to us safe and sound from all their tours of duty during these years of war. We pray they never have to return to war for the rest of their days.

Rina Kroes has released a new kit to help us scrap our photos of festivities and joy as we continue to pray for the safe return of all our soldiers who continue to fight so that all people can Celebrate Liberty. Here are a few of the pages I have used with this gorgeous new kit. You can click on the images to be taken to my gallery for a full description and list of credits, and I would love it, if you took the time to leave a comment or two!

Scrap4Hire

Recently I received an email asking me to sell quick pages from my previously posted Splash layouts. I would just like to remind every one,

According to the TOU of most designers...selling QPs would not be possible as this is considered to be pirating;
You maY use and incorporate the Content in scrapbooking layouts you create for others, whether or not you make a profit, provided that the layouts are provided to the client as a flattened, un-editable form either electronic or printed. You may not provide the editable pieces of the kit or quickpages without photos to anyone else under any circumstances.

However, I do SCRAP4HIRE which means I would create flattened layouts for you with your photos which are suitable for printing or framing. Just contact me at grannynky@gmail.com for more information

To change the subject a bit....I scanned in about 400 photos yesterday from Mama's photos. These were from some bragbooks we found from 1996 and 1997, mostly Christmas I have a bin filled with her photos stuck back in the closet...I keep putting that off but hopefully I will start on them soon!

I also got my house cleaned up pretty good this weekend...including washing walls and everything!!! I wish we did not smoke so it would stay clean!!! I suggested that maybe we stop smoking in the house but that did not go over. However, he cleaned out the car, and washed and waxed it and now he does not smoke in the car anymore! (I never smoked that much in the car anyway) How come when he has to clean he aims to keep it that way as long as possible but the same does not go for what I clean, lol!

I really need to start taking pictures of moments like this for it would make great scrapping pages! Our camera is so poor that we never get it out much anymore...I am going to have to change that!!!

Yesterday, I scrapped several pages with the new kit Rina Kroes will release at Scrapbook-Elements on Sunday and let me tell you, you will love this kit so keep your eyes posted at the SBE store and don't forget to come back and check here...there may be a pretty little freebie for you!

Today, I completed a couple of fun challenges at Scrapbookgraphics. I attempted to make a comic-type layout for the Frameworthy Challenge using the Eat Your Veggies Kit by Kimberly Stewart and her Tooty Fruity Alphas-the Brights My SIL had all her teeth surgically removed. The pictures she sent me were evidence of how incredibly swollen her lips and entire face were but she said she felt so much better for she had suffered with pain from her teeth for years due to the radiation from her thyroid cancer. I used several techniques from my software on the photos in my attempt to make them look a little bit like a comic book, as we can now laugh together at how miserable she really did look that day, lol.

I also completed the Lovely Miss Kait's, I Can Scraplift That Challenge in which we lift the POTW, Dani Vignoli's Alegria. I used Into The Twilight by Studio Flergs with the Sophie font.

I was talking to her Mommy on the phone one night when Erynn (My Granddaughter) got on the phone crying with a loose tooth. I suggested that she eat an apple but she would not
cause it hurt when she tried. I told her to tie a string to the tooth and then tie the other end to a door knob and slam the door, and the tooth would come out but again she cried, "No! It will hurt!" However, when Daddy got home from Virginia the next day, she let him do just that! A few days later, he had to repeat the process for the other front tooth!

(A full list of all credits can be seen in the gallery descriptions by clicking on the images)

Well, thats it for me today! I hope you have a great week and Happy Scrappin!

Summer Splash

I have had so much fun today playing with Cathy Krenek's soon-to-be-released SPLASH from Scrapbook-Elements. I was inspired by a few of my favorite summer songs, and I had the perfect photos for this kit from my Grandson Isaac's first swim. I just had to share them with you! I fixed a little play list as well so I hope you enjoy listening as you surf the web today!

"The Boys of Summer" is a song by Don Henley, written by Henley and Mike Campbell. It is the lead track and first single from Henley's 1984 album Building the Perfect Beast, and made the perfect page title for this cute page with the boys first experience in the swimming pool.
I was inspired by Spotted Dog Designs Template Topography no.7 for the layout design, and I used the Splash Kit as well as the Splash AddOn-a SBE July Posting Bonus

Eli (Isaac's little friend) is a very cool little guy! Here he is "Groovin' On A Sunday Afternoon"
with that adorable little butt crack shining, lol! Groovin' is a song from 1968 by The Rascals.

Summertime Blues, a song about the trials and tribulations of teenage life was recorded by Eddie Cochran in 1958 (Wikipedia). I changed some of the words to fit Isaac's obsession with his pacifier, even in the pool.

No summer song mix is complete without songs by The Beach Boys. They recorded Fun Fun Fun in 1964 and Good Vibrations in 1966; both were written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love.

Summertime was composed by George Gershwin for the 1935 opera Porgy and Bess but it soon became a popular jazz standard. I love Janis Joplin's version but my favorite is by Fantasia. I used those lyrics for some photos of the Mommy's swimming in the big pool.

For a complete list of credits, you can check my galleries in the next few days as I will posting them after the release of the SPLASH kit by CathyK Designs on Sunday at Scrapbook-Elements. And, in case you missed it, there is a little Splash QP freebie I made on the previous post!

Happy Scrappin!

CathyK Designs

Whew! The last couple of weeks have just flew by!! We have been so busy here in the holler that I went for several days and did not even have my computer on, and let me tell you, that has only happened in the case of power outages for quite some time!

Our little goldfish pond that my son Matthew dug out for me last summer got damaged and all the water leaked out. We worked for several hours trying to repair it but finally decided it was a lost cause. Since, it involved so much upkeep and we could not get the summer algae growth under control through means we could financially afford we chose to abandon that project. We took the fish to Matthew for his pond, and filled the pond in. We had some really good dirt down behind the garage so we dug it up, filled in the pond and planted flowers. We bought a crepe myrtle tree and a few perennials, and moved the peonies there to create what will next year grow to be quite a beautiful little garden....hopefully!

I hope all of you enjoyed a great 4th of July holiday. It poured rain here all weekend so we had no fireworks but we did go to one of my brothers home for a nice little barbecue. After all the work we had been doing around here, it was nice to get out of the house for even those few hours. It has been equally nice, to power the ole pc back up and do a little scrappin! A new month brings new challenges to all of the forums and I always look forward to that!

Cathy Krenek is sponsoring the July Template Challenge, and I went right to work on using her fun template. I used her new her new STARS AND STRIPES page kit with the coordinating items, STARS AND STRIPES ALPHAS BUNDLE and the FRAME IT! STARRY METAL. These were available at SBE this past weekend for the DoorBusters Sale but don't worry, they will return to the SBE store soon!

The July Template is a lot of fun with all the circles and upon completion of the challenge you will not only have a unique scrapbook page but you will receive a very nice posting bonus as well! The Splash AddOn posting bonus can be used to create cute pages all on its own but used with the new Splash page kit which will be released at SBE on Sunday July 12th, you will be ready for all those summer swim photos! I used the AddOn posting bonus to create you an 8x10 quick page to help get you get those photos done. Enjoy!
