We had to wait for the winter weather to hit Kentucky but it came with a vegenance! The state was hit by a major ice storm that left many residents without electrical power for weeks. We were fortunate for we had propane gas for heat and hot water, and we were without electricity for only seven days and six nights but it is an experience I hope not to repeat...not for a while anyway!
Since then we have had temps in the 70s one day, and freezing the next day. Last night we had high winds and thunder storms, and tonight they are predicting three inches of snow. If you don't like the weather in Kentucky, just stick around and it will soon change!
Here is a page I made using my brother's ice storm pictures
Journaling reads:
The electrical lines and trees gave way and broke down under the
pressure of all the ice. Temperatures dropped as the entire
subdivision huddled together to stay warm without their
electrical power. The stores were all closed and only
emergency personnel could
purchase gasoline.
Many residents pooled
their resources and
sent to Bowling Green,
Elizabethtown and other cities
for fuel and generators. Water
and telephone services were also
interrupted and worked
sporadically. The Governor
declared a State of Emergency
and the National Guard
was called up. The local
high school was opened
as a shelter while crews
from other states came to
assist in getting power
restored to residents
across the state.
